Nicaragua’s cumbia alt darlings, La Cuneta Son Machin return to the U.S. and embark on a tour in California, Colorado & Texas. The tour, Gira Cañambuco kicks-off in Northern California on Monday, February 5th in Sacramento at Harlow’s. The band is slated to open two shows for México’s, Los Angeles Azules 2/14 Honda Center in Anaheim and 2/15 Balboa Theatre in San Diego. (complete tour dates below)
The band is known for their hyper-cumbia alt style infused with Nicaraguan rhythms and folklore modernized with ska, rock, hip-hop and funk that they have become known for in Central America. Their music tells stories about their native country and boasts storytelling irony.
The band is composed of a collective of musicians. Three of them are from the Mejía-Godoy family who for three generations have gained fame internationally with their highly-political and social conscience lyrics by Carlos Mejia-Godoy and international fame by Luis Enrique (Mejia-Godoy).
La Cuneta Son Machin received a Grammy nomination in 2016 for their album, Mondongo in the category, ‘Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album. They are the first cumbia-alt band to receive a Grammy nomination in their country in this category.
The band released their third album, Cañambuco last year. The tour will feature music from this album, Amor Fritanguero as well as Grammy nominated album, Mondongo!
